Is PvP over for me?
So here's the deal:
My parents won't let me buy nightfall since they think i'm addicted to it and it might interfere with my studies. I'm 17 years old in my junior year in high school and have a while til i move out.
I can still play Guild Wars, but only having Prophecies and Factions means that i wont have access to NF skills.
Is there still any chance i can GvG/HA without those?

You still can, but to a limit. Even old builds are being modded with NF skills.

There are a few classes you could still play reasonably well. You could do a Blessed Light monk (without Shield of Absorption ) and a decent Dom mesmer without Spiritual Pain. Some warrior builds are also perfectly viable, and air eles are still playable without NF.
Most other classes have some crucial skill that teams aren't going to want to drop in serious play. Rangers want to run Natural Stride, necros want to run Reaper's Mark or Spoil Victor, assassins want to run Black Spider Strike, ect ect. There was a lot of power creep with Nightfall, and most of the major builds have incorporated Nightfall skills.

You're right, good call. I was thinking it was NF because it sucked so much before NF's release, but it's Factions.

Get a credit card, hit amazon, put the mailing address to your buddy's house. You can burn the box and the CD once you put in the key. The perfect crime...

Actually, when I bought my NF, I tore the box open and trashed everything except the access key.
To echo the other posters, well...it depends on whatever you're playing.

Wow your situation is exactly like mine, pretty much. Parents think I'm "addicted" or something and it makes my marks go down. Only a year and a bit left and I'm out, hopefully. Then I'm free to waste as much of my life in front of some crap computer I can barely afford as I see fit. *sigh*
Anyway they're limiting my play time so you're probably better off, you could still probably buy it without them noticing unless they can keep track of what was installed or something.

Just run to a Best Buy, buy a copy of Nightfall, trash everything like Lighteninghell suggested except for the CD Key, take the CD Key come, apply it to your computer, gg.
Only if you can control yourself into not letting GW interfere with your studies, otherwise you might wanna listen to your parents.

OKay, hate to brag but I'm something experienced at getting computer games under my parents nose.
lots of stuff you can do to get the game depending on your options.
1.)biggest thing, do you have a job? some sort of input of money other than birthday and Christmas is important. due to the fact you have prophecies and factions it sounds like you've got some form of independent money source.
2.) if you don't have a job get one. not too too hard, even if you live in a rural area, cut neighbors yards or help someone move for 25, pull 2 jobs like that and borrow 5$ and
( assuming you live in America) you'll have enough funds to work with.
3.) I'll assume you have little or no form of transportation other than parents. my question to you is this. do you have friends. do you spend some of your holiday time at a friends house?
can you in someway get to a Wal-mart,local mall where agamestore is something like that on the pretense of going with friends. do you go to the movies that might be located near an electronics store? The trick is to find someway to get a friends mom to drop you and your friend off to pick up supplies for a party, or let you come into the store with her to pick up food, and sneak off for 5 min, buy the game, hide it in your jacket / book bag, sweater w/e
and then smuggle it home.
4.) does your school have a uniform? is your mom cheap and go to stores like target/walmart/Sam's to buy school uniforms?if so find a good story, accidentally tear a hole in the knees of your uniform pants or in your shirt. and get your parents to buy you a new one, while shopping for groceries or w/e. then sneak off and smuggle the game in the aforementioned fashion.
thats just a few ideas.
i got both prophecies and factions using various smuggling techniques from walmart and best buy while Christmas shopping for relatives. after that i got a car and a job so running over to walmart ot buy a new game isn't too much of a challenge for me now.
p.s. I'm also a junior in high school =D

The Nightfall skills are due for a tweak sometime so I wouldn't rush off until that happens.
If you get into a guild that PvP's for fun you should be okay without the NightFall skills.

nah, you really do need the new skills. tons of cool new skills like your all alone, charging strike, mark of the reaper. the black spider strike.
you'l simply be limited PvP wise. and guild wars isn't the best of PvE games IMHO

I'm a junior in high school too.. I can understand that you like Guild Wars and want to play Nightfall, but I wouldn't recommend smuggling the game in.
One: Your parents could find out. They almost always have a way of finding out.
Two: School is more important. You don't want to ruin your entire future because you felt like playing Nightfall instead of studying for the midterm exams.

I ran a gvg a week ago in which some of the characters had prophecies only skills by coincidence. Yes it's possible to pvp without a third expansion.
'Rents kicking you out of the house eh? ouch.

Start getting good grades. Then starting staying out all night on the weekends partying. Mantain your good grades. Become a drug addict, then when your parents ask what happened tell them you could have been playing Guild Wars. You will be allowed to sit and play video games throughout your entire rehab, it will be sweet. LoL J/K.
Talk to them. You might have to stop playing until your get your grades up which is like what? A month until the next report card. Once you do this talk with them again, as long as you get all your homework done before loggin on, dont stay up to late, and dont let your waste expand faster than the universe in the first few nanosecs, you should be alright. If you haven't tamed your folks by now it wont happen overnight.

The smuggling isn't even that hard. You can just copy the CDKey, tear it up and recycle it, and use the copied CDKey. You can have nothing that remains from the box.
I should shut up now.

Is it just me or is this topic (wich was a valid PvP question) turned into a "burn my parents" and "how to become a parent rule violator?" thingie?
The answer was given above... yes it is still viable to play PvP and due to the balanceness of the game (I inlcuide future balancing already in my answer ) it is no problem only having factions/prophs...
Of course you DO miss a lot of fun
